Omuro Sengen Jinja
This Jinja(Shinto shrine) is known for its Goddess KonohanaSakuya-Hime,
who is the goddess of Mt.Fuji and Sakura Trees
It is also the Jinja of horse, fortune,
divination, and Omikuji(fortune paper)
It is said that this Jinja was built on the
tip of the Kenmarubi-lave flow from Mt. Fuji by
Sakanoue-no-tamuramaro shogun in 807C.E.
The shrine is worshiped as the guardian of this land by the people of
the Fuji-Hokuroku region.
Fortune telling rituals such as the Yabusame
Festival and the Tsutsugayu Divination Ritual are
considered Intangible Cultural Heritages and are foundations for local life.
The goddess of this Jinja rides a horse,
which is specific to this Jinja compared to other Jinjas that worship the same goddess. Horses act as
